Private Apartment
After a fire destroyed a portion of this client’s home, the need was apparent for a full time tenant on the property to oversee its care when the homeowners were traveling. To this end, certain construction materials and methods were employed to keep the cost down while providing flexibility for a tenant. MDF board was used in lieu of hardwood for the paneling and a picture rail was designed within the crown moulding so the walls would not be punctured for art. Solid wood shutters were used to avoid the intrusion of potentially unsightly window treatments. Higher end materials were included in small amounts to make the apartment appropriate for family or guests should the need for a caretaker become obsolete.
